Faithful to Watch Over Me

And she called the name of the LORD that spake unto her, Thou God seest me: for she said, Have I also here looked after him that seeth me? (Genesis 16:13 KJV)

In my last devotion, I asked readers to share their favorite hymns. Stephanie A. Daniels shared the following song. I went in search of the music and lyrics for I had never heard of this precious gem. Sadly, it is hard to find.

About the Author

Frank E. Graeff was a minister with a cheerful disposition but often suffered from bouts of doubt and depression. I believe the words are a testimony of what he came to know in his life because he asks questions and then supplies the answers. So, if you’re wondering does Jesus care, rest assured He does!

Does Jesus Care?

Does Jesus care when my heart is pained
Too deeply for mirth or song,
As the burdens press, and the cares distress,
And the way grows weary and long?

O yes, He cares- I know He cares!
His heart is touched with my grief;
When the days are weary, the long nights dreary,
I know my Savior cares.

The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good.

Proverbs 15:3 KJV
Does Jesus care when my way is dark
With a nameless dread and fear?
As the daylight fades into deep night shades,
Does He care enough to be near? [Refrain]

He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

Psalm 121:3 KJV
Does Jesus care when I’ve tried and failed
To resist some temptation strong;
When for my deep grief I find no relief,
Though my tears flow all the night long? [Refrain]

But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.

Luke 15:20-24 KJV
Does Jesus care when I’ve said goodbye
To the dearest on earth to me,
And my sad heart aches till it nearly breaks—
Is it aught to Him? Does He see? [Refrain]

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

Matthew 5:4 KJV

Many in the following video have faced heartaches. They know the truth of this song. If you are struggling, I pray these words will sink deep into your spirit and bring hope in this hour.

  1. Thank you for sharing what you found out about this song. And the verses you inserted between the lyrics are just perfect. That Gaither sing along made me weep.

    • The video made me weep too, Stephanie. It is so precious to see someone “who truly knows” the care of Jesus in their lives. It is easy to talk the talk, but there is a difference when you meet someone who walks the walk. Thank you for sharing this song with me!

  2. Comforting words. I pray He reaches out to all the suffering in our world right now. Lord hear our prayers!!

  3. Thank you for going in search of this hymn, Gail. It’s sad that it was hard to find. These days it seems the things we need most take time and patience to seek out. I find comfort in knowing He cares.

    • That’s the truth, Jill. So glad you liked it. I have maybe ten hymnals? Had to find it online. Love these words! Plan to share it with friends and family. Have a blessed day!

  4. What a brilliant post.
I do believe that God cares about everything concerning His people. Jesus is the one I lean on and I know without a shadow of a doubt that He understands our pain, cries with us and never leaves our side.
Without His caring nature, I would be lost with little hope for the day.
