Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28 KJV ).
Multiple songs swirled inside my head when planning this post. But as I thought about the news and social media, this song came to mind. Perhaps the words echo the prayer on your lips.
I Need Thee Every Hour
Annie Hawks wrote the poem I Need Thee Every Hour in the first-person point of view and addressed a desire to know Jesus personally. I like that because the words become my own when I read them.
Withholding nothing, she honestly shared her struggles. But she didn’t stop there. She added the answer to all hardships. Knowing Jesus intimately can make a difference in life.
Dr. Robert Lowry, pastor and hymnist added the refrain while writing the music. It is also a prayer for the Lord to draw near and comfort the petitioner.
I need Thee ev’ry hour,
Most gracious Lord;
No tender voice like Thine
Can peace afford.
Refrain:
I need Thee, oh, I need Thee;
Ev’ry hour I need Thee;
Oh, bless me now, my Savior,
I come to Thee.
I need Thee ev’ry hour,
Stay Thou nearby;
Temptations lose their pow’r
When Thou art nigh. [Refrain]
I need Thee ev’ry hour,
In joy or pain;
Come quickly and abide,
Or life is vain. [Refrain]
I need Thee ev’ry hour,
Teach me Thy will;
And Thy rich promises
In me fulfill. [Refrain]
