I Feel Like Traveling On

I Feel Like Traveling On

August 2, 2022August 15, 2024 / Gail Johnson / 6 Comments

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also (John 14:1-3 KJV).

By now, you know I have a thing about music. I love the way songs can tell a story in three minutes or less. Stories of Jesus, heaven, and our journey. Some hymns are praise songs thanking the Lord for what He has done. Others are worship songs focusing on Who He is. Then there are times you need to testify to yourself. To remember why you are here, what you are doing, and why you are doing it. The hymn “I Feel Like Traveling On” is such a song.

Ever had one of those days when you feel you can’t take another step, survive another hit, lose another battle? Well then, you will understand when I say on those days, stand up, brush yourself off, and begin singing a reminder of your final destination and Who is waiting for you.

The Song

My heav’nly home is bright and fair,
I feel like traveling on.
Nor pain, nor death can enter there,
I feel like traveling on.

Yes, I feel like traveling on,
I feel like traveling on;
My heav’nly home is bright and fair,
I feel like traveling on.

Its glitt’ring tow’rs the sun outshines,
I feel like traveling on.
That heav’nly mansion shall be mine,
I feel like traveling on.

Let others seek a home below,
I feel like traveling on.
Which flames devour, or waves o’erflow,
I feel like traveling on.

The Lord has been so good to me,
I feel like traveling on.
Until that blessed home I see,
I feel like traveling on.

2 Peter 3:18 (KJV)

But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.
