Expectation

But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting (Micah 5:2 KJV).

Expecting a king to deliver them from Roman rule, many missed the significance of the star, stable, and the babe asleep in the manger.

The Song

O little town of Bethlehem,
how still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep
the silent stars go by;
yet in thy dark streets shineth
the everlasting light.
The hopes and fears of all the years
are met in thee tonight.

For Christ is born of Mary,
and, gathered all above
while mortals sleep, the angels keep
their watch of wond’ring love.
O morning stars, together
proclaim the holy birth,
and praises sing to God the King
and peace to all the earth.

How silently, how silently,
the wondrous gift is giv’n!
So God imparts to human hearts
the blessings of his heav’n.
No ear may hear his coming,
but in this world of sin,
where meek souls will receive him, still
the dear Christ enters in.

O holy Child of Bethlehem,
descend to us, we pray,
cast out our sin and enter in,
be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels
the great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us,
our Lord Immanuel!

Goodness is…

Good morning, dearest reader! Thank you for taking time out of your day to visit with me. Your thoughtfulness is appreciated!

This month’s theme is goodness! How do you describe goodness?

Webster defines goodness as the state or quality of being good. The words kindness, generosity, benevolence are added to the list. And finally, we read the best part, essence, or valuable element of a thing.

When we think of goodness, we may be tempted to look upon our temporal blessings. Unfortunately, the danger in that is our perspective in the seasons of want, despair, and loss. For example, in the good times we praise Him, and in the bad times, we complain.

I’m ashamed to admit it, but I’ve been guilty of this very thing. 😦

Yet the Lord’s goodness should never be measured by our physical circumstances. He is good all the time!

Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! Psalm 107:8

The writer states it very well in the video! Enjoy!

Reflection:

How has God been good to you? Have you in turn shown that goodness to others?
